Workshops
May 5-6, 2000
Schenectady, New York

Schenectady, NY

The Schenectady workshop was hosted by SUNY Syracuse, the official Northeast Regional Your Town Center, and co-sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor Commission, a regional heritage development and coordination agency focused on helping local organizations and projects make a regional impact. It marked the 23rd Your Town workshop held nationally, and the seventh in the northeast.

The workshop was keynoted by Dr. T Allan Comp, founder and Director of the US Office of Surface Mining (OSM)’s AMD&Art Program-—an initiative combining science and art to address acid mine drainage (AMD), a significant environmental issue in areas, such as New York’s Mohawk Valley, affected by metal mining. Between May 5-6, regional leaders gathered for design lectures, group engagements, case study presentations, and the culminating Your Town workshop based on a hypothetical rural town in the northeastern United States. Programming aimed to address the specific needs and issues of rural New York, particularly the Mohawk Valley.
