The workshop, which took place on November 12-14, 1998, was produced by a consortium of partners including University of Southern Indiana, landscape architecture faculty from Purdue University, the Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and Historic New Harmony. The workshop attracted 33 attendees from across the region, and offered an unusually peaceful and focused opportunity due to New Harmony’s history and character as a Utopian community. The keynote address was delivered by Judy O’Bannon, wife of Indiana’s governor, and focused on the importance of community and preserving what you value. The workshop was also notable as the first workshop to focus on a particular community as a case study and also take place in that community.
