Hosted by faculty from Auburn University with support from the School of Environmental Design at the University of Georgia (the official Southeast Regional Your Town Center partner), this workshop took place in June 1998. It was the result of an ad hoc “Alabama Your Town Steering Committee” convened by Paul Kennedy of the Cawaco Resource & Conservation Development Council in partnership with the NEA’s Your Town program leadership. Kennedy and others from Alabama had attended previous Your Town workshops in Tennessee and Georgia.
The workshop offered design support to attendees from across Alabama using a hypothetical community as the case study. The workshop was such a success that it led to the establishment of Your Town Alabama, an ongoing nonprofit program that has continued using the case study model coupled with participatory lectures and group problem solving.
