‍This CIRD workshop focused on physical improvements and economic development strategies to implement a design strategy and vision to create a vibrant commercial core that will encouraging appropriate and beneficial new development while also preserving the Village’s character.

Workshop Challenge:

This CIRD workshop focused on physical improvements and economic development strategies to implement a design strategy and vision to create a vibrant commercial core that will encouraging appropriate and beneficial new development while also preserving the Village’s character. Workshop sessions addressed issues of sustainability, walkability and connectivity.

Workshop Outcome:

The National Association of Realtors® awarded Lima with a $15,000 Smart Growth Grant to help fund the workshop and its outcomes. During the two and a half day workshop, participants had the opportunity to listen to and work with a number of dynamic speakers who addressed topics ranging from business model development and entrepreneurship to historic preservation and economic revitalization, and implementing a vision. The workshop convened over one hundred architects, planners, Village Mayors, and leaders of non-profits, educational, and religious institutions.

Post-Workshop Accomplishments:

The Community Design Center Rochester, a partner with the Village of Lima during the workshop, received a grant from GRAR (Greater Rochester Association of Realtors) that is the catalyst for ongoing work with Lima to help them design a new village square and bandstand as identified in the Vision Plan that resulted from the CIRD Workshop
